Qadi ‘Iyad’s seminal work on the traits, perfections and rights owed to the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) has been one of the most celebrated works in Islamic history. This is not surprising, given the depth of love the author has for the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) and the amazing insights relating to the perfections of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) he highlighted in this work.

This course covers the sections of the book that are most relevant to Believers, with a contextualisation of the Qur'anic verses referenced, without which many of the references would remain vague for many readers. The lessons focus on seeing the distinctive perfections of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), with the aim of developing a perspective on the respect and reverence due to him.

About the text:

al-Shifa was written for one of the author’s students who was a scholar in his own right, and has, therefore, been the foundation of many scholarly works in its field. Scholars and laymen alike have diligently studied its contents - with the final quarter being especially directed to those who have a strong background in the fields of Law (Fiqh) and ‘Aqida (Theology). The work’s structure is aimed at identifying the great rank and position the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) has in the sight of God, understanding his character and characteristics, and then seeing his traits and perfection. All of this is a necessary preamble to knowing his right and learning how to fulfill them.

About the Author:

al-Qadi (the Judge) al-Imam Abu’l-Fadl ‘Iyad b. Musa al-Yahsubi was born in Sha’ban 496vAH.Originally from Andalusia, his family had moved to Fes, eventually settling in Ceuta. He was an expert in the sciences of Hadith, Tafsir, Fiqh, Usul al-Fiqh, and the branches of the Arabic language.

After authoring many valuable scholarly works in Fiqh, Hadith, and other sciences, he died in 544 AH in Marrakesh. The influence of his works can still be seen in many Sacred sciences to this day, especially the most famous text al-Shifa. It is said there was not a single Muslim household that did not have a copy of it at one point.

The guidance of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) is transformative, but it has its greatest impact when it is used to nurture children from the very beginning. It is an approach based on kindness, love, and connecting the hearts of children to God.

The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), through kindness, love, and encouragement, taught people to be the best they could be. This merciful and kind approach fulfills the human needs of the child and introduces the perspective of being good to the creation and dutiful in upholding the rights of Allah.

With many Muslims raising their children in places where the dominant culture is at odds with religion in general, the importance of a nuanced, culturally sensitive approach cannot be overstated. For many, raising children is the challenge of facing a flood of cultural influences, whilst trying to mold a religious identity in their children.

This On-Demand course looks at the Prophetic model of raising children, providing clarity and context to navigate the above challenges. It shows how the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) taught us to raise functional human beings with hearts that are connected to God.

The Isra’ and Mi‘raj occurred after the passing of the Prophet’s Uncle, Abu Talib, and his wife, Khadija. Their deaths, coupled with the intensification of the opposition shown by Quraysh, led to some of the most challenging days in the life of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace).

During this blessed night journey, the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) was given consolation by Allah. Allah Most High showed him the reality of matters. The disbelievers’ opposition is meaningless in the face of the existence of Paradise, Hell, and the wonders of Allah’s supreme creation. Judgment is real, and the struggles will end in the victory of Allah and His Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace).

Looking at this event provides many lessons for the believers. You will see how honored the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) is, even amongst the prophets and angels, and what joys and horrors are in store for the inhabitants of paradise and hell, respectively. You will gain a greater appreciation of the significance of the five prayers in the life of a Muslim.
